Vicky Pollard

After much kerfuffle I have just seen the first episode. Thank you James for taping it for me as I was away looking at rocks and crabs... Liked the title sequence, liked the style of presentation and enjoyed the show. What, you want more of a proper review? Ok. What can I say about Vicky Pollard? She's an icon for a whole generation of teenagers, most of which come in my shop muttering and heading for the comfy chairs while grabbing sexy books to read on their way. How I love to listen to their strange communication, which consists of shouting, yelling, swearing and sulking. Thank you Vicky for giving these girls representation on national TV. It gives them just a little bit of dignity to see their community on't'telly.

Things I don't get about Little Britain: Why has Vicky got a Bristol accent when no one else has? And why in the now-dreadful 'comedy-drama' Teachers, which is set in a Bristol school, does no one have said accent? Odd. And why is Meera in Fat Fighters when she is in fact her target weight (just like Marjorie is, in her own mind)?

As it was the first episode there were some re-shot pilot sketches to introduce the characters. The new version of the Daffyd sketch wasn't quite as good as the old one but the outfits they wore were quite scary close-up in the studio recording! Everyone loves the gays and the whole block of sketches set in Llandewi Breffi were definitely a highlight to clap and laugh to. As was the Lou and Andy swimming pool sketch, one of so many filmed with those particular characters. I wonder how many will be shown on the telly? Probably not all as it gets quite repetitive.

This episode was watched with a new member of our club, the wonderful James who is a local in the North. He seemed to enjoy it but then he does have impeccable taste... The only letdown for him was the use of too much pilot episode material, which I suppose was unavoidable. He has some great stuff to look forward to though. I am sure that some 'normal' people wouldn’t be amused but then some people find 3 Non-Blondes, which followed it on BBC3 funny. No accounting for taste!
