| "I say," said Lord Walliams, "Do you know what is on the television tonight?" Dorothy looked thrilled. "Why of course! I shall just peruse this listings magazine." She flicked gaily through the pages while catching Lord Walliams' eye. He stared at her pert
bosoms, transfixed. She began to read, "At 7:30 in Eastenders Pauline is depressed. Pat has a fight in the square and Dot goes to Arthur's bench to be sad. Alfie organises a cockney knees up in the Vic and Kat discovers that she is an
oompa-loompa," said Dorothy. "Do go on," said Lord Walliams, "your voice is simply delightful. "At 8:00," continued Dorothy... You can find this week's Radio Times over there, Miss Grace. Truffle please! ...How many pages now Miss Grace? (said Dame Sally) Miss Grace would like to share some of her favourite romantic novelists with you. You already know of the work of Dame Sally Markham (Lady In Mauve, Ring Of Desire, Lady In Red, Ring Of Love) but you may not have heard of some of her contemporaries. All available from good bookshops , bad bookshops and online bookshops. Dame Barbara Cartland's a strange creature. She wore a ridiculous amount of pink and was always seen with a fluffy dog. Her face was painted whiter than Michael Jackson. She had written over five hundred romantic novels. Dame Sally finds her to be a preposterous caricature of a romance writer! Barbara Taylor Bradford is not even a Dame! Ha! She is from Yorkshire but is now an American and is fond of airbrushed portraits and writes books about ladies. Most of her reviews on Amazon.co.uk are written by her biggest fan, Emily Howard. Nora Roberts has had a makeover since that photograph was taken. She now also writes futuristic crime thrillers under the name JD Robb. Soon she will add a third persona to her writing career, that of Humphrey Devon, under which she will write books for men about wars and shooting and things. Connie Mason writes books that are commonly known as 'bodice-rippers.' This gets Dame Sally all flushed so I don't mention her around the house. Her books tend to be about rogues or Vikings and they always have lustrous manes of long hair. Miss Grace's Web links: http://www.rna-uk.org/site.html Romantic Novellists Association.
